Emergency Relief Appropriation Act of 1935
The Emergency Relief Appropriation Act of 1935 was passed on April 8, 1935, as a part of Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal. It was a large-scale public works program for the jobless that included the Works Progress Administration.〔Faragher, John Mack, Mari Jo Buhle, Daniel Czitrom, and Susan H. Armitage. ''Out of Many: A History of the American People''. 4th ed. Upper Saddle River, New Jersey: Prentice Hall. 2003. 727, 728.〕 It allocated $4.88 billion for this purpose.
Of the funds appropriated by the act, $27 million was approved for the Federal Art Project, the Federal Writers' Project and the Federal Theatre Project under the WPA-sponsored Federal Project Number One.
